AXC 8 results

Fantastic night of fights. Ben, Tony, and Josh all three put on some great fights.

Josh won via tko strikes from mount. Josh showed tonight exactly what a good sprawl and head control can do, and those uppercuts from the clinch were fantastic. Its going to SUCK really bad to spar with Josh in about a month. I cannot wait for him to fight again. Its going to be great.

Tony lost via heal hook. Tony fought a very tough fight against a good opponent. I can not say enough how impressed I am with his ability to recover after that big right. He recovered well and got the fight back to his feet…hit a nice take down, and those body shots from the top guard were very effective opened up alot. We have been away from leg locks to long.

Ben lost a tough split decision…another war for Ben. Showed a TON of heart and very good cage control. That dude was a beast. I think it was perfect timing on the arm bar attempt. That cage had a big part of not finishing that arm. It was a good fight. You were the one who stood up un-assisted at the end of the third round. For what its worth….I think you won the 2nd and 3rd.

AXC weigh ins

The weigh ins went great. All three opponents showed up and two out of three made weight. Ben Darley will be fighting at the proper weight of 170. His opponent 174.6. All others were right on. Should be a great night of fights with some good local exposure for everyone fighting. We have some big shows coming in the next few months and it starts tomorrow night. I hope we have another big turnout….come support the team.

AWESOME job Joe.  You stuck to your game plan better than most anyone I’ve seen and it paid off perfect.  Really proud.  Jeff,  I wish I knew what that was you did to that guy. Props to him, he was tough.  We finally get to see Jeff with a black eye! 

 I have to thank Roli for,  once again, cornering Jeff and myself.   That really means alot to us both.

Great Job and thanks to everyone on the team for the awesome training.  Except Daniel…You suck for leaving.   Just kidding, thanks for the all your help, especially last week.

Conwaybjj had a great night of fights. Ben and Daniel both put on awesome shows.

Daniel won his fight by triangle choke with just seconds left of the first round. He looked great on his feet, and on the ground.

Ben lost by split decision, to a very tough opponent in what many believed was the fight of the night. The pics below don’t really show the full story of Ben’s fight. The first round was close. Ben shot a takedown but had to work really hard to finish it which didn’t leave alot of time to work. The second round was all Ben. Completed the takedown and maintained top control most of the round, went for several submissions but wasn’t able to finish them. In the Third, Ben took a hell of a shot to the nose, and was bleeding like crazy. They stopped the fight in the middle of the third for the doctor to check his nose. It wouldn’t stop bleeding, but he NEVER quit. He convinced the doctor to let him fight, and he kept attacking. Ben easily could have taken the easy way out and let them stop that fight but he refused and kept going. Ben finished that third round on all heart. Ben’s heart carried that fight to the decision, rather than letting the doctor stop it. If one more judge would have given that first round to Ben, he would have won that fight. I think Ben set the bar high. He showed what kind of heart all of us hope to be able to fight with. To put it in perspective, I was told they had to bring out a mop to get the cage ready for the next fight, and he never quit.

It was a great night and thanks to everyone for always supporting our gym. It really means alot to everyone who steps in the cage to know so many people are behind us. I believe the next show will be in April.

AXC 6 Weigh Ins

All three Conwaybjj fighters showed up and made weight. Too bad all three of our opponents couldn’t do the same. My opponent Jeremy Simpson decided for reasons nobody knows he would rather not fight. Ben and Daniel’s fights are still on and they are ready to go. Check out some pics from the weigh ins. As you can see….I was there and made weight and was ready to fight.

Lets wish speedy recoveries to both Jeff Hardy and Nick Looper.  Both were forced off the card due to injuries.

AXC 5 results

Tonights fights were amazing.  Jeff won by Arm triangle in the 1st round.  Jeff fought the PERFECT fight.  Aswesom takedaown to side mount to  mount to Arm triangle.  Takedowan was awesome, ducked the over hand right to great double leg to slam right into sidemount, pefect mout to arm triangle. 

My fight was a very good fight, but I lost to arm bar late in the 3rd. I watched the  video and im very proud of this fight.  My opponent was 10-1 and making his last ameture fight before going pro.  I gave him all he could handle including a very good takedown in the first, but I was reversed into bottom half guard. I got full guard went for several subs but he was very wise to them all.  I feel the first round was a toss up.  I feel I won round two with take downs and top control but was unable to finish.  The 3rd I feel was going my way with until I got caught with a good arm bar.  Arm bar to tri angle to arm bar.  It was a very good sub and  I had to tap. I think my left is a little messed up but I think it will be ok. Great fight 2nd fight and Im very proud.  Will  be looking forward to Feb.

I cant thank Jeff enough…..his wrestling was at least 50% of this fight and my jiu jitsu was the other %50. A little more conditioning and I think I would have won that fight.  I truely believe now more than ever our wrestling will really set us apart.  Also thanks very much to westside MMA and Roli for cornering both Jeff and I and the Saturday morning training classes.  I have learned alot from Saturday morning and the support is really great.
